1. What Vocabu Is
Vocabu (vocabu.io) is an educational web application for building personal vocabulary in a foreign language. An AI assembles a word set tailored to the goal you describe, and a spaced-repetition system (FSRS) schedules reviews designed to support long-term retention.
2. What Vocabu Is Not — No Outcome Guarantees
Vocabu provides a learning tool, not a result. Memory and learning outcomes depend on your own activity and circumstances. We do not guarantee that you will learn, memorize, or retain any words, pass any test or exam, or achieve any language proficiency. Scores, progress indicators, and recommendations inside Vocabu reflect your activity in the application and are advisory only; they do not certify knowledge and do not predict performance on real tests, exams, or in real-life communication.
Vocabu is an educational product. It is not a medical device or medical service and makes no claims of preventing, diagnosing, or treating any health condition, including cognitive decline.
3. Accounts and Age
You must be at least 13 years old to use Vocabu. By creating an account you confirm your age honestly. Informal-register content (slang) is available only to users 18 and older and is disabled for users aged 13–17. Accounts are personal; keep your credentials secure. Family Plan profiles are for the named individuals only.
4. Subscriptions, Trial and Payments
New accounts receive a 10-day full-access trial, no payment card required. Paid access is sold as subscriptions (monthly or annual; promotional prices may apply to limited cohorts and remain valid only while the subscription renews without interruption, where so stated at purchase). The maximum prepayment horizon is 12 months; we do not sell lifetime access.
Payments are processed by Paddle.com acting as Merchant of Record: Paddle is the seller of record for your purchase and handles billing, taxes, and payment data. Refunds are governed by our Refund Policy and Paddle's buyer terms.
If your trial or subscription ends, your data and progress are preserved, but learning features become unavailable until a subscription is active.
5. AI-Generated Content
Vocabulary items, example sentences, translations, stories, etymology notes, and similar content are generated by artificial intelligence and may occasionally contain inaccuracies. We work to keep quality high (including human review of language pairs), but AI content is provided "as is" for educational purposes. If you spot an error, you can report it at hello@vocabu.io or via in-app reporting where available.
Features and language pairs marked "Beta" are offered for early access with reduced quality expectations: interface may be partially in English, and content quality may not yet match fully supported pairs. We appreciate error reports for Beta features.
6. Acceptable Use
You agree not to: use Vocabu for unlawful purposes; attempt to extract, scrape, or bulk-export generated content for redistribution; reverse-engineer or disrupt the service; submit content that is unlawful, hateful, infringes others' rights, or is otherwise inappropriate for an educational service as we reasonably determine (including in custom word input and goal descriptions — automated filters apply); share class invite codes outside the intended class. We may suspend accounts that violate these terms after notice, except where immediate action is necessary.
7. Teacher and Class Features
Teachers may create classes and assign vocabulary work to students who join with an invite code. Teachers see only learning-progress data of their class members. Informal-register content is always disabled in class contexts. Teachers are responsible for having appropriate permission to work with their students, including minors aged 13+.
8. Intellectual Property
The Vocabu software, design, brand, and methodology descriptions belong to the operator. Generated study content is licensed to you for personal (or in-class) learning use, not for resale or redistribution. Content you submit (goal text, custom words) remains yours; you grant us a license to process it to provide the service.
9. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy describes what data we collect and how we use it, and is part of these Terms.
10. Service Changes, Availability and Termination
We aim for reliable operation but do not guarantee uninterrupted availability; short maintenance windows and occasional outages may occur (for extended outages, see the Refund Policy). We may modify features as the product evolves. You may delete your account at any time in Settings (see Privacy Policy for data consequences). We may discontinue the service; in that case, prepaid unused subscription time is refunded pro-rata as described in the Refund Policy.
11. Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the service is provided "as is", and our aggregate liability to you is limited to the amounts you paid for the service in the 12 months preceding the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including statutory consumer rights in your country of residence — these Terms do not reduce them.
12. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Kazakhstan, without prejudice to the mandatory consumer-protection rights of the country where you reside. We will try to resolve any dispute informally first: hello@vocabu.io.
13. Assignment and Severability
We may assign or transfer these Terms (together with your account and our obligations to you) to a successor operator — for example, to our incorporated company upon its registration, or to an acquirer of the service — provided your rights under these Terms are not reduced. You may not assign your account without our consent. If any provision of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force.
14. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms; material changes will be announced in-app or by email at least 14 days in advance. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
Upon incorporation of the operating company, these Terms will be updated to name the company as operator; user rights will not be reduced by that change.
